Ask Sam - Question:

Question:
Hey, I was wondering if you could give me a little more information on how to become a chartered accountant through apprenticeships and whether or not it is possible. I have read through some websites that say to become an accountancy technition you can do a course called AAT. However, I've read you can go further on to do a course called ACA. Could you tell me whether I'm misreading something or whether there is a better way etc? Thanks.

Answer:
thanks for your enquiry. Basically, AAT route is the apprenticeship/work based learning way in to this sector. Accounting Technicians work alongside Accountants, the professional (chartered) person is the Accountant (Association of Chartered Accountants). AAT qualified people can become fully-qualified accountants by completing Higher Education/Graduate Conversion programmes at some point in their career. I'm going to forward to you a school website that has an excellent electronic version of training opportunities across the Tees Valley area, Accounting is a sector included, and an explanation of how to access the information. Any problems or further quesions please get back to me, Regards Sam
