Ask Sam - Question:

Question:
Hello i have heard rumours that you need 3 A levels to get into University and i am wondering if this is true also i am wanting to become a projectionist in a cinema do you know about any jobs or if i could do an apprenticeship in this

Answer:

Hi Adam, your first question can be answered in general, 3 A Levels are not always required to enter University though many students who apply anticipate attaining in 3 subject areas (General Studies may not be counted by many institutions) and it is very dependent on; the institutions entry requirements, the degree course, other interests/knowledge/experiences of the applicant. Suggest you read the following guidance from UCAS - http://www.ucas.com/students/beforeyouapply/whattostudy/entryprofiles

and don't forget thet Brinkburn has an experienced Adviser in Adrian Bostock (who can point you in the right direction with regard to appropriate degree programmes for your career aim).

Your second query regarding work as a projectionist may be best answered by taking a look at www.myvue.com/cinema_roles where there is a brief explanation for roles; projectionist, senior projectionist and projection manager. Suggest contacting someone at there head office who may be able to outline what they are looking for from applicants (try Odeon, UCI etc).

As far as apprenticeships go I am not aware of any vacancies locally at this time (though that does not mean they do not exist), suggest you regularly vist the Apprenticeship Vacancy Matching Service at https://apprenticeshipvacancymatchingservice.lsc.gov.uk/navms/forms/candidate/Apprenticeships.aspx

Any other queries please catch up with your Connexions adviser in college - Steve Wilkinson - or send in another message to Ask Sam. Regards Sam
